Salem Bldg. 74 HVAC Replacement

HICAPS was the Design-Build General Contractor for this project for the Salem, Virginia VAMC, which included replacing the existing heating and air conditioning systems in Building 74 with a new, more energy efficient system. Work consisted of the installation of a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system, to condition all interior spaces individually and included associated electrical upgrades to supply power to the entire system.  Additionally the project work included demolition, removal, and disposal of the existing building’s Air Handling Units (AHU’s), induction boxes, and ductwork, that was not required for the new system.  Existing chilled water systems were capped at the ends of existing distribution lines. Existing pneumatic controls were disconnected. Thermostats were relocated above ceiling and reconnected to control lines. The total cost of this project was $1.8 million.
