Refurbish Piping

Charleston VAMC Refurbish Piping

HICAPS was the General Contractor for this project, which included replacing components of the hospital’s chilled water, domestic water, steam condensate, and medical gas lines. HICAPS provided additional hangers for the sanitary sewer and natural gas lines, upgraded the lighting control system, replaced basement staircases, and demolished all pipes that were  replaced, which included asbestos abatement in specified areas.  All major utility systems were required to have seismic bracing per the specifications and designed by a seismic engineer.  The intent for this project was to replace all of the subcomponents of the hospital’s utility lines located within the basement that were in disrepair with system components that are more resistant to the harsh atmospheric and in some cases submerged environment posed by coastal flooding. The total cost of this project was approximately $3.3 million.
